Teens Study Jewish Ghosts And Demons In New Program At Kol Tikvah

Congregation Kol Tikvah has started a new program for teens, and their October event features Jewish ghosts and goblins.

“Teen Night at Temple (TNT)” is a fun and interactive opportunity for eighth through twelfth graders to engage in hands-on Jewish learning in a relaxed environment,” said Yael Hurwitz-Lange, the congregation’s new director of education and youth engagement EYE.

A former lawyer, Hurwitz-Lange realized later in life that her passion lay in working with students and has since found a new role, bringing her passion for education and love of Judaism together.

Events take place every Monday night and include Jewish cooking, Israeli music and culture, and more dynamic classes for teens.

Each evening ends with a casual, fun-filled “lounge night” with delicious food, lively music, and spirited games and conversations.

As the congregation’s new EYE Director, Hurwitz-Lange said the program strikes the perfect balance of tapping into the social aspects that teens love while educating them about the richness of Jewish life.

“Uniquely, the students are deeply involved in designing and creating a curriculum that is meaningful to them,” she said.

“Jewish Demons, Spirits, Witches and Ghosts, Oh my” will include free ice cream and an evening of superstitions and wizardry in Jewish traditions at Cherry Smash in Coral Springs on Monday, October 25 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
