A Dave Thomas Education Center student was arrested after school officials discovered a canister of pepper spray in her purse amid concerns of a rumored imminent altercation on campus.
According to a Coconut Creek Police Department arrest report, Qydaeja Rouse, 18, of Pompano, was found in possession of a 1.8-ounce pepper spray canister during a routine check by school security. The discovery came after staff learned about a possible fight involving Rouse and another student.
A School Resource Officer detailed in an arrest affidavit that Rouse was located by a security specialist in the cafeteria and escorted to the administration office, where the pepper spray was found inside her purse..
Rouse, a resident of Pompano Beach, was taken into custody and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
