Friends of Joaquin Oliver Hold Fundraiser to Help Family Get to Washington

Best friends since third grade, Julien Decoste and Joaquin Oliver, were about to sign a lease to live together at the University of Central Florida in Orlando next fall; however, Joaquin’s life would be tragically cut short by a school gunman at Marjory Stoneman Douglas.

“Joaquin was like a son to me,” said Julien’s mother, Tennille. “He went on family trips with my family, and our son went away with his.” The two friends attended Heron Heights Elementary School, Westglades Middle, and lived in the Heron Bay community in Coral Springs.

She wanted to help Joaquin’s large family get to the March to Washington. She said that her daughter Jada, who works at Monster Mini Golf in Coral Springs, was approached by regional manager David Jiminian who asked what they could do to help the family.

With the family”s permission, they organized a fundraiser on Thursday, March 1, from 2 p.m. – 10 p.m; where 100 percent of the proceeds will go to Joaquin’s family to help them get to Washington D.C., where they will speak about their devastating loss.

The cost to golf will be $10 per person, but anyone can give above that amount, which will go directly to the family. If you cannot attend and would still like to help send them to Washington, Julien has set up a GoFundMe for the family.
