High school volleyball is back in Coconut Creek, highlighted by reigning state champion North Broward Prep taking the court for the first time.
The Eagles, who won the first state championship in program history last season, feature a new look this year with the addition of head coach Kristi Tekavec. A former indoor and beach volleyball player at Florida Atlantic University, Tekavec began her tenure with a preseason victory over Somerset Academy before earning her first regular-season win against NSU University School.
NBP won 25-23, 21-25, 25-10, 25-19 to open the season. The Eagles then took a two-sets-to-one lead against Benjamin High School in their next match but ultimately fell in five sets. Next, North Broward Prep will play American Heritage High School on Thursday, August 27, at 5 p.m.
Coconut Creek High School also opened its season against J.P. Taravella, falling in three sets, 25-9, 25-13, 25-18. The Cougars are coming off a season in which they won three matches and will look for their first victory when they play Hallandale High School on Thursday, August 27, at 6 p.m.
Monarch High School has gotten off to a strong start, recording back-to-back wins to begin the season. The Knights opened with a five-set victory over Coral Springs High School before following it up with a four-set win against Parkridge Christian High School on Monday. Monarch went 6-7 last season and will look to continue its unbeaten start when it plays Piper High School on Thursday, September 3, at 7:30 p.m.
