At the Humane Society of Broward County in Fort Lauderdale, two special pets—Leia and Catalina—are waiting for loving homes. Each has a unique story.
Leia
Leia (ID 506615) is a 10-year-old cat who recently lost the only person she ever knew. She is alone, shy, and unsure of what comes next. At 17 pounds, Leia knows she might not be the first one people notice, but she hopes someone will give her the chance she needs. While she may take time to adjust, once she feels comfortable, she enjoys getting attention and will even chatter when it’s mealtime.
Leia prefers a quiet environment and does well with other cats and small dogs as long as introductions are made slowly. She’s a laid-back girl who appreciates the simple joys of life—lounging in a peaceful spot or playing with the right toy. Though she may be a bigger cat, Leia is eager to be loved again and is searching for a home where she can spend her golden years in comfort and care.
Meet Catalina:
Catalina (ID 687965) is a sweet 7-month-old pup who wonders why she keeps getting overlooked. She’s not a purebred, but her heart is full of love, and she’s ready to show it to the right family. Though shy at first, Catalina has made great progress with the help of volunteers, who’ve watched her grow into a more confident and affectionate dog.
This playful young girl knows a few basic commands and even responds to Spanish. She enjoys soft treats and attention and may even sneak in a kiss or two when she feels comfortable. While she still needs some work on leash-walking, a proper harness helps keep her focused. Catalina is eager to be part of a loving family and make many happy memories together.
If you’ve been thinking about adopting, now is the perfect time to make a difference in the life of an animal in need.
Leia, Catalina, and many other pets await their forever homes at the Humane Society of Broward County, 2070 Griffin Road, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33312. The adoption kennels open at 11 a.m., and the vaccine clinic is open six days a week, with no appointment necessary.
