The Marjory Stoneman Douglas girls and boys cross country teams were honored with a proclamation by the Parkland City Commission on Wednesday night after becoming the 2018 Broward County District Champions.
Mayor Christine Hunschofsky said this past year has not been an easy one for the cross country teams at Marjory Stoneman Douglas, after having to overcome obstacles and challenges that no high school students should have.
“Instead of giving up, these teams fought hard this season. They took a huge win at the Boca Bobcat Invitational with a first place win for the girls and a second place win for the boys.”
She said both the boys’ and girls’ teams were determined to make an impact this season – and they have done just that by beating teams from Coral Springs High School, Coral Glades High School, Monarch High School, J.P. Taravella, and Deerfield Beach High School to be named District Champions.
“We are so proud of both of these teams,” said Hunschofsky. “Congratulations on your District championship win. We can’t wait to see what you do next.“
