It’s official. In a phone call to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School families on Friday, Principal Michelle Kefford confirmed students would start the school year online.
“As I am sure most of you have heard, our Superintendent announced this week that we will start the 2020-21 school year online,” she said.
According to the recorded message and an email that followed, the school has already begun planning for e-learning by hosting training for teachers, and they have plans for more in the coming weeks.
Class schedules for the Eagles are in the process of being created and should be released in early August. Families from all other schools located in Parkland are still awaiting information on their returns.
Kefford explained they are working on orientations for families to help them better navigate the online platform, and details of the program are coming from the Broward County School Board.
All sports and extracurricular activities, like band and drama, will remain on hold until the district gives approval for them to commence, and Kefford she assured she would communicate additional information as it becomes available.
She said, “We are working hard to ensure you and your and children have a positive virtual experience as we initiate the 2020-21 school year.”
