The City of Parkland is holding a special Memorial Day Ceremony to honor all Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
On Sunday, May 29, the ceremony begins at 5:30 p.m. It includes a welcome speech from Mayor Rich Walker, followed by an Honor Guard Presentation of Colors by the Broward Sheriff’s Office and the Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department Honor Guard.
The first guest speaker is Navy Veteran Janette Chandler, who, in her 20-year Navy career, earned 32 service medals. Upon retiring, she co-founded the Military Heroes Support Foundation, for which she is currently a Director of Veterans Affairs.
The second guest speaker is Jay Seigel, a retired Army Reserve Colonel. The keynote speeches will be followed by a ceremonial wreath presentation and a patriotic concert by the 13th Army Band.
Memorial Day services are held at Pine Trails Park Amphitheatre. Residents are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating. Food trucks will be available at the event.
