The high school football season continued this week, with one team recording a win in Week 8.
Coming off a game against one of the top teams in the country, Monarch High School dominated Coral Springs High School, winning 50 to improve to 4-3 this year. Jeremiah Milcent went 10-20 with 400 yards passing, along with four touchdowns.
Jabari Brady, Sanjay Fisher, and Chris Cortinas all scored while also recording over 100 yards receiving. Keshawn Paschall and Anthony Williams each added rushing scores. Miguel Farinas also added five extra points and made one field goal.
The Knights will once again face a tough opponent, playing the number two-ranked team in the state, St. Thomas Aquinas High School, on Friday, October 17, at 7 p.m. The Raiders are 6-1 this year and have won six straight after losing in Week 1 to a school in California. Monarch had its only loss in the regular season last year to St. Thomas Aquinas in a game that ended 44-6.
Coconut Creek High School suffered a 33-30 loss against South Broward High School to fall to 6-2 this season. The Cougars’ only other loss came against Cardinal Gibbons High School, as Coconut Creek will play Atlantic High School on Friday, October 10, at 7 p.m. The Eagles rank 24th in the state and are 6-0 this year, having also recorded a 34-25 win last year against the Cougars.
North Broward Prep lost 28-7 against Calvary Christian Academy on Friday night. Ralph Diaz threw for 127 passing yards while Kenneth Hall had a rushing touchdown. The Eagles trailed 22-0 at halftime and scored their only touchdown in the third quarter. Noah Johnson, Eden Richardson, Jake Hengold, and Easton Willis all added sacks. Next, NBP will play Coral Springs Charter on Friday, October 17, at 7 p.m. The Panthers are 5-3 this year and lost 48-8 in the lone meeting a season ago.
Both Monarch and Coconut Creek High School had cross-country teams in action. The Cougars were led by Timothy Wint at Quiet Waters, finishing 10th with a time of 20:06.3. Lious John James was next to finish and came in 19th, followed by Nathaniel Black Livensky Badio, John Jacques, Darryl Pluviose, and Mercy Palmer. Farah Charles was the lone runner for the girls’ team and placed 14th.
Monarch High School participated in the Pompano Beach Golf Club event, where Landon Kerlegrand placed 44th. Kenyon Bryan, Adrian Graham, and Garidson Jean-Marie each ran for the boys, while Sophia Ortega came in 29th for the girls. Next, these teams will prepare for the BCAA Championship before the start of the postseason.
