This weekend, community members come together for a special Shabbat to celebrate Israel’s Independence Day.
“Come with your family, wave an Israeli flag, and celebrate together,” said Allison O’Mara, Director of the North Broward Jewish Federation, partnering with Congregation Kol Tikvah for the musical event.
“You don’t have to belong to a synagogue to join us – everyone is welcome,” said O’Mara.
Festivities will begin with dinner and schmoozing for the adults while the kids grab their passports and head to Israel.
“The children will have the opportunity to take a trip to Israel without getting on a plane,” said Executive Director Jennifer Levin-Tavares.
They will visit multiple activity stations, each of which has something to do with an actual city in Israel. Activities include face painting, an archaeological dig, climbing Masada, and more.
During the family program, attendees can bring food, chairs, and blankets for a tailgate in the park. Congregation Kol Tikvah is providing free desserts, flags, and glow sticks for attendees, and everyone should wear white to celebrate Israel.
A Rock Shabbat service with live music by the KT Band will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Pine Trails Amphitheater. The KT band, who have been playing together for 10 years, will be unveiling a new original song on Friday in honor of Israel’s Independence Day.
“We would really love to get more people in the community out there to celebrate Israel’s 74th birthday,” said O’Mara.
The Pine Trails Amphitheater is located at 10561 Trails End.
