This year, the Chabad of Parkland is bringing the Chanukah festivities to the residents, one candle at a time.

While COVID-19 continues to keep worshipers away, Chabad will hold outdoor menorah lightings at locations around Parkland.

Called the Chanukah Experience, the show hits the road with a mobile DJ, gifts, and even sufganiyot (Jewish doughnuts).

“The idea with the lighting is to spread the message of the miracle of Hanukkah,” said Rabbi Shuey Biston.

Thankfully Chanukah lasts eight nights, so the rabbis have a “lot-ka” time to stop by each community.

The celebrations start on the first night of Chanukah and continue through December 14 with socially distanced outdoor family fun, and everyone is welcome.

Traditionally, Chabad has a Chanukah Festival at Pine Trails Park, with a parade of menorahs, but this year was canceled.

“So, we’re combining the two,” said Biston, who plans to have a few Chanukah-themed cars drive around the neighborhoods with music.

He said the concept is to bring the joy of the holiday to the residents.

“It’s not just about watching the menorah lighting. It’s more about us coming through the development and for the kids to enjoy the spirit of Chanukah.”

Those who don’t live in one of the developments can visit Chabad of Parkland at 7170 Loxahatchee Road for their festive lighting on Saturday, December 12, at 7 p.m.
