Coconut Creek Crime Update: Massive Computer Hack Results in $545K Loss

This is a summary of Coconut Creek’s crime and arrests through March 4, 2024, compiled through our joint effort with the Coconut Creek Police Department to share updates with residents.

Suspicious Incident

Suspicious Incident on N State Road 7 was reported on 02/27/2024. An adult male exposed himself to the caller while stopped in traffic.

On 03/01/2024, a suspicious Incident was reported at Monarch High School on Wiles Road. An inappropriate photo of a substitute teacher was taken.

Fraud

A victim of Fraud—other at Tallowwood Isles on NW 64 Court was reported on 02/29/2024. The total loss was $545,141. Fraud by computer hacking was reported.

A victim of Fraud—use Of Credit Card at Guitar Center on Lyons Road—was reported on 02/27/2024. The total loss was $2,838.

A victim of Fraud – Other at Banyan Trails was reported on 02/28/2024. The total loss was $80,000.

A victim of Fraud—wire/Computer/ATM at 7-Eleven on W Hillsboro Blvd was reported on 03/03/2024. The total loss was $736.

7-eleven was the victim of Fraud—other on Coconut Creek Parkway, which was reported on 02/29/2024. A skimming device was found.

A victim of Fraud—wire/Computer/ATM on W Hillsboro Blvd—was reported on 03/01/2024. The total loss was $880.

Animal Complaint

An Animal Complaint – Other at Cypress Shores on Lyons Road was reported on 02/29/2024.

Theft

Home Depot was a victim of Theft—retail/Shoplifting on N State Road 7, which was reported on 03/01/2024. The total loss was $3,328.

A victim of Theft – From a Motor Vehicle at Wynmoor on Victoria Way was reported on 03/01/2024. The total loss was $630.

Home Depot was the victim of Theft – Retail/Shoplifting on N State Road 7 was reported on 02/29/2024. The total loss was $299.

Walmart was the victim of Theft – Retail/Shoplifting on W Hillsboro Blvd was reported on 02/29/2024. The total loss was $150. B/M Arrested for felony Retail Theft.

Al Hendrickson Toyota was the victim of Vehicle Theft—auto on W Sample Road, which was reported on 03/01/2024. A male provided a fake ID to purchase a vehicle.

Burglary

A victim of Burglary – Residence at Walgreens was reported on 03/01/2024. The total loss was $152. A male shoplifted and fled from officers, then jumped into a closed yard and hid.

Arrests

Kuruvila, Betsy A., 38, was arrested on a charge of Touch Or Strike/Battery/Domestic Violence on 02/27/2024.

Mckinnis, Ricky Marvin, 46, was arrested on a charge of Dui Alcohol Or Drugs 1 Offense at 4000 W Sample Road on 02/28/2024.

Castillo, Joe, Harly, 50, was arrested on a charge of Domestic Battery By Strangulation at 6800 NW 39 Avenue on 03/01/2024.

Briggs, Dumo Christopher, 37, was arrested on 03/01/2024 on a charge of Burglary Occupied Dwelling Unarmed Burglary—Residence.

Rivera, Matthew, 20, was arrested on a charge of Burglary Unoccupied Conveyance Unarmed on 03/03/2024.
