Dressed in jeans and jerseys, over 250 attendees at the Third Annual Live for Alyssa Benefit helped raise over $125,000 for Make Our Schools Safe.
Parkland residents Lori and Ilan Alhadeff created the nonprofit in honor of their daughter Alyssa — one of 17 killed during the shooting massacre. The goal for this year’s event was to raise money to advocate for Alyssa’s Law at the Federal level and to increase safety measures across the country.
Held at Parkland Golf & Country Club, Lori said the event was all about Alyssa and honoring her life and memory.
“Even with 250 guests in attendance, it felt intimate and personal,” she said.
The benefit, which combined a Cinco de Mayo and soccer theme, included food and drinks, a dance exhibition, a live band, a performance by a mentalist, a silent auction, and more.
The evening included a beautiful video tribute to Alyssa filled with messages of love. Friends, teammates, coaches, and camp counselors shared memories of Alyssa, and local dignitaries thanked Lori for everything she has accomplished over the last four years.
Formed following the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School school shooting on February 14, 2018, Make our Schools Safe is dedicated to driving and guiding the best practices in school safety.
Lori said, “The support of this community has always been incredibly supportive, and that night was no exception.”
