Make a good move and head to this year’s Mayors’ Chess Challenge.
The free event is back in the City of Parkland on Saturday, January 29, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., and is open to everyone regardless of age, playing level, or even beginner status.
Mayor Rich Walker is looking forward to connecting with young residents and participating in his first chess challenge.
“Chess is an amazing opportunity for participants to utilize strategic and logical thinking,” said Walker. “It’s an ideal way for players to strengthen their mind and sharpen their skills.”
The Mayors’ Chess Challenge brings families, elected officials, and community leaders together to support scholastic chess. Instructors from the Sunrise Center for Excellence in Chess will be available to help those new to the game.
This free and friendly series of meet-ups, spearheaded by Sunrise Mayor Michael Ryan in cooperation with mayors throughout Broward County, draws attention to the benefits of chess in both the academic environment and in our community.
The PREC is located in Pine Trails Park at 10599 Trails End in Parkland.
