The community commemoration honoring the 17 victims lost at Marjory Stoneman Douglas will be observed as a full day of love and remembrance.
“It is so important to never forget the 17 who were lost on February 14,” said Mayor Rich Walker. “Our city is working closely with Eagles Haven to ensure that our residents take this day to reflect and remember those beautiful souls whose lives were cut so very short.”
Starting at noon on Monday, February 14, the Eagles Haven community wellness center has a full day of programming and support services planned, including painting, jewelry making, snacks, therapy dogs, meditation and movement, and a community healing circle.
At 5 p.m., the commemoration will transition to Pine Trails Park Amphitheater, where a memorial ceremony will incorporate local clergy, a drum circle, and various activities. Then, a brief ceremony conducted by spiritual leaders will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by a short video honoring the victims.
The event will also include therapy dogs on-site, a memory wall displaying photos of the victims, an area to write messages, and a drum circle. Support services will also be available at Pine Trails Park and off-site wellness resources that are always available to the community.
“We hope to see the support of our entire community on this day,” said Walker.
Pine Trails Park is located at 10559 Trails End in Parkland. Attendees should expect traffic congestion along the roads surrounding the park.
