From Mayor Christine Hunschofsky:
October is the start of our City’s 2019/2020 fiscal year. The approved budget can be found at www.cityofparkland.org/budget. The City’s budget is a financial representation of our collective priorities.
Thank you to all the residents who participated in surveys and town hall meetings and reached out to us to offer your input on our FY19/20 budget. In Parkland we are fortunate to have an extremely involved and responsive City Commission that values resident input. It is hard to attend any event in the City and not see one of us there. Please know we all want to hear from our residents and our contact information can be found on the city’s website at www.cityofparkland.org/commission.
This month, the City of Parkland hosts Government Day for all the third-grade students who attend schools located in Parkland.
As part of this day, the students learn about the Parkland Library, police and fire services, recycling and the role of local government.
We also use this opportunity to teach the students about our city, its history and the many events, amenities and volunteer opportunities that are available.
If you or your children are interested in volunteering in the city, please contact our volunteer coordinator Shaina Smilovitz at ssmilovitz@cityofparkland.org or visit cityofparkland.org/volunteers.
Our PTAs, PTOs and PTSO do so much to support the Broward County Public Schools located in Parkland and our students. They partner with the teachers, staff and administration to make these schools some of the best in the county. Please support the wonderful work they do by becoming a member, volunteering where possible and signing up for their email updates. Here are the links:
Our Parkland Dash takes place October 13 at 7:00 a.m. at Pine Trails Park. This is a fun community event with part of the proceeds going to support Broward County Public Schools in Parkland.
Our annual Halloween Festival and Trunk or Treat takes place October 25 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at Pine Trails Park.
If you have not already done so, please download the MyParkland mobile app from the Apple App Store or Google Play to stay up to date on meetings and events and to contact the city with your concerns.
As always, I look forward to hearing from you. Please feel free to email me at chunschofsky@cityofparkland.org.
