For the first time, the Parkland Rangers 10 to 12-year-old cheerleaders brought home a national championship.
The competitive team, comprised of 26 fourth through seventh-grade girls, mostly from Coral Springs and Parkland, has been preparing for nationals since summer.
Coached by Jaymie Seward and Kerry Fleck for the past six years, this is the first time they have made it this far.
A weeklong event at the Orlando Convention Center, the Parkland Rangers cheered against the top two teams from each region in the United States.
Seward said they were really impressed with the teams they competed against at the national level.
“The competition was fierce,” she said, “But the girls performed better than ever before.”
After taking first place in both Show and Sideline Performance Cheer, earning the title of Southeast Regional Champions, the team advanced to the National Championships on December 8.
The Rangers Pee Wee Cheerleading Team advances to the YCADA Globals in Atlantic City in February and plans to fundraise soon.
