Former Marjory Stoneman Douglas pitcher and member of the Oakland Athletics, has tested positive for the Coronavirus.
Jesus Luzardo, 22, played on the MSD varsity baseball team four seasons and won the 2016 National Champions as a captain. He was then drafted in the third round of the 2016 MLB draft after being dealt as a significant piece in the Sean Doolittle trade from the Washington Nationals.
After making two starts in the big leagues, he appeared in six games and was expected to significantly impact his team in MLB’s shortened 60-game season in the starting rotation.
Born to Venezuelan parents in Lima, Peru, he moved to South Florida at the age of one and graduated from MSD in 2016.
After being diagnosed on Tuesday, Luzardo will be required to self-isolate for two weeks and test negative two times before returning to the team.
The Athletics will begin their season on July 24, at 7 p.m against the Los Angeles Angels.
