{Waste Management}
By Sharon Aron Baron
The Broward County Commission has postponed the proposal by Waste Management to expand the Monarch Hill landfill, referred to as “Mount Trashmore.”
Waste Management was slated to request the Broward County Commission to change the county’s land use designation on the site of a decommissioned waste-to-energy plant on company property on Tuesday.
This would have provided them with 24.2 acres of new dumping ground next to its Monarch Hill landfill in North Broward.
In a statement from the Coral Springs Coconut Creek Regional Chamber, they thanked everyone who called, emailed, or signed up to speak at the meeting and assured their voices had been heard, adding, “The City of Coconut Creek is advocating for a one-year extension to allow the Solid Waste and Recycled Materials Authority time to complete the Master Plan for addressing countywide waste disposal.”
