A Marjory Stoneman Douglas student’s essay won State Rep. Christine Hunschofsky’s Women’s History Month contest.
Open to all students in K-12 living in District 96. State Rep. Hunschofsky asked students in March to send an essay of 500 words or less about a woman they look up to or who they feel has made a positive contribution to society.
Jacey Brauner, a 9th grader, won the contest with her essay about Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg and her positive contributions to society.
She entered the contest because she wanted to write about strong, inspiring women and Ruth Bader Ginsberg met that criteria.
“I am so happy this essay contest was offered. It is very important to acknowledge and appreciate all the strong women who have made the world a better place,” she told Parkland Talk.
State Rep Hunschofsky looks forward to meeting her in May, after the legislative session, to give her a certificate.
