Parkland Library’s “Universe of Stories” Summer Reading Club (children, teens, and adults) June 5 – August 10
Every person age two years through adult will receive a small gift for coming in and registering for the “Universe of Stories” Summer Reading Club. Keep a log of books you read to earn prizes all summer. The more books you read, the more prizes you get! Keep reading all summer and win prizes along the way. Adult Summer Reading Kickoff with speaker Janie Gould
“Global Events and How They Affected Florida: Depression through the Cold War” Saturday, June 8th, 10:30 a.m.
Janie Gould will share some compelling stories about people she interviewed for public radio, and relate their memories of mid-century Florida. Gould received numerous awards for her radio show, Floridays, and published three books. Now retired from the NPR station, Gould writes for Indian River magazine and lectures for the Florida Humanities Council. She is a fourth-generation Floridian who lives in Vero Beach. Attendees are encouraged to register for “A Universe of Stories” Summer Reading Club. Anyone who joins will get a prize and reading log. The more books you read this summer, the more prizes you get! Lincoln Logs Big Build (age 4 and up)
Monday, June 10th, 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
To celebrate a huge addition to our Lincoln Logs collection courtesy of Basic Fun, Inc., the Parkland Library will host an expanded session of Building with Lincoln Logs. Children will have fun using their imaginations while building log cabins, towers or whatever else they become inspired to make, now with even more logs and accessories! Adult Coloring Book Art
Tuesday, June 11th, 10:30 a.m. to noon
Decompress and let your mind wander while enjoying this latest creative trend: coloring books for adults. We’ll add some soothing background music and light snacks to create a little “me time” in your day. We will provide the supplies, or you may bring your own. Young Adult Summer Reading Kickoff Event: Lantern Craft (middle school & high school)

Light up the universe this summer with a creative craft that turns an ordinary mason jar into a colorful lantern! We’ll use tissue paper, glitter, and paint for this project that will add a glow to any room. Participants are encouraged to register for “A Universe of Stories” Summer Reading Club. A Universe of Stories and Songs Summer Reading Kickoff Show (age 3 and up)

Bring your imagination and willingness to play! Get ready to sing to the stars, nibble on the clouds and climb to the moon. Storyteller Mij Byram will take you out of this world with stories, music, and movement. Miss Mij is a professional storyteller and early childhood educator with over 25 years’ experience.
