One horse was killed and another injured in a barn fire off Vinkemulder Road in Coconut Creek Thursday morning, police said.
Firefighters from Coconut Creek Fire Rescue were called to the Red Stone Ranch (formerly God’s Little Acres) in the 4500 block of Northwest 39th Avenue around 5 a.m. for a reported fire in a horse barn, Coconut Creek Police said.
With help from Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Rescue and Lauderhill Fire Rescue, Coconut Creek firefighters got the fire under control in less than 20 minutes but could not save one of the horses, police said.
The condition of the second horse was not immediately available.
Police and Coconut Creek Fire Rescue are investigating the cause of the fire. The State Fire Marshal’s Office is helping with the investigation, police said.
