A man who shoplifted from a Coconut Creek Walgreens was captured by police after he tried to hide from them in a resident’s backyard, authorities said.
The resident, who lives in the Coco Palms neighborhood, spotted Christopher Briggs, 37, hiding in her backyard on the morning of March 1 and called 911, according to a post on the Coconut Creek Police Facebook page.
It turned out police were looking for Briggs, who had just shoplifted from a nearby Walgreens and taken off running, police said. Briggs tried to hide from officers in the woman’s backyard, “but he lost that game of hide and seek,” the post states.
Briggs took off running again after discovering that his hiding place had been found, police said. Officers arrested him a short time later.
The Fort Lauderdale resident was charged with shoplifting and resisting arrest and taken to the Broward County Jail, police said.
