Jesstin Dave Corbitt {BSO}
Police say a man stole more than $1,400 in soap, shampoo, and other hygiene products during three thefts from a Coconut Creek Publix, then returned and was caught during the investigation.
According to a Coconut Creek Police Department arrest report, the thefts occurred September 27 at the Publix at 5365 Lyons Road.
Police said Jesstin Dave Corbitt, 28, of Lauderhill, entered the store and filled a Publix hand basket with hygiene products, including bottles of shampoo, body wash, and soap.
Corbitt allegedly walked out of the store without attempting to pay, took the merchandise to a vehicle, and placed the items inside, according to the probable cause affidavit.
Police said Corbitt returned about a minute later, went back to the hygiene aisle, and filled another basket with similar merchandise. Investigators allege he again left without paying and again put the stolen items in the same vehicle.
Minutes later, Corbitt allegedly entered Publix a third time, collected additional hygiene products, and walked out without paying before quickly driving away, police said.
In total, investigators said Corbitt took 136 hygiene products valued at $1,433.06. The store’s surveillance video captured the alleged thefts.
Several hours later, police said Corbitt returned to the same Publix while an officer was still completing the report.
The store manager recognized Corbitt as the person in the surveillance footage, and police noted he was allegedly wearing the same clothing he wore during the earlier thefts.
Corbitt was detained and positively identified by the Publix manager, according to the affidavit. The store told police it wanted to prosecute.
The arrest report also states that Corbitt had two prior theft arrests in Florida.
Corbitt was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail. He was later released after posting a $2,500 bond.
