From State Rep. Christine Hunschofsky:
As we transition into fall, I hope everyone is enjoying the cooler weather and the festive spirit of October. Halloween is just around the corner, and I want to remind everyone to have a safe and fun time, whether you’re trick-or-treating, attending local events, or just enjoying the spooky season with friends and family. Make sure to check your local city websites for details on any Halloween events and safety tips to ensure everyone has an enjoyable time.
We are now about a month away from the upcoming election. With many important races and amendments on the November ballot, now is the time to make sure you’re ready to cast your vote. The deadline to register to vote is October 5th, and you can complete this online at registertovoteflorida.gov. The deadline to request a vote-by-mail ballot is October 22nd. You can request your vote-by-mail ballot at BrowardVotes.gov. Early voting in Broward County will begin on October 19th and run through November 1st, from 7am to 7pm. You can view early voting and vote-by-mail drop-off here: https://browardvotes.gov/voting-methods/early-voting-dates-hours-and-sites. Election Day is November 3rd, from 7 am to 7 pm. Make sure to check your polling place and review your sample ballot ahead of time. You can find all this information, as well as details on how to track your vote-by-mail ballot, at BrowardVotes.gov.
On the ballot will be three constitutional amendments to vote on. This includes Amendment 1, “Budget Stabilization Fund”; Amendment 2, “Exemption of Tangible Personal Property on Agricultural Land from Taxation”; and Amendment 3, “Increased Homestead Exemption; Lower Cap on Increases in Non-Homestead Property Assessments.” Additionally, there will be local initiatives on the ballot. You can view all three amendments here: https://constitutionalinitiatives.dos.fl.gov. Please note that constitutional amendments require 60% of the vote to be enacted. To view a full sample ballot, please visit BrowardVotes.gov. Every election gives all of us the opportunity to have our voices heard in who represents us and what policies we support. Please research who and what are on the ballot and make a plan to vote.
I also want to highlight that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to remind ourselves of the importance of regular screenings and early detection. If you haven’t already, consider scheduling your mammogram this month. Early detection saves lives.
Last, but not least, our Legislative Aide for the past three years, William Giliberti, has left our office to pursue other opportunities. We are so very sad to see him go and wish him all the best in his future endeavors! Our new Legislative Aide is Andrea Stampone. Andrea is a Broward County native who graduated from Cardinal Gibbons High School and Gardner Webb University with a bachelor’s degree in history/political science & international affairs. We are excited to have her join the team!
As always, my team and I are here to help with any questions or concerns you may have. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to our office at 954-953-2760 or HD095@flhouse.gov.
