Coffee lovers can support local students and teachers while grabbing their favorite drinks during a special Giveback Day at Cali Coffee on Saturday, Aug. 2.
From 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., 30% of all sales at Cali Coffee will be donated to the Women’s Club of Coconut Creek’s student scholarship fund and teacher grant program. Customers do not need to mention the fundraiser or present a flyer for their purchases to count toward the donation.
The partnership was suggested by Cali Coffee founders Craig and Rose Avera in response to the city’s anticipated reductions in charitable funding for nonprofit organizations during the upcoming budget year.
“Given the current economic climate, having constant new avenues to explore through fundraising that continues to engage the community is great,” says Club Treasurer Laura Agostino.
Women’s Club members will host an information booth throughout the event, where visitors can learn more about the organization, membership opportunities and ways to support its community programs and events.
Partnerships and community relationships are what have made the Women’s Club not just survive, but thrive all these years, said President Laura McDermott Matheric as she enters her sixth year as Club leader. “This venture with Cali Coffee is creative and engaging. We’re so grateful for the opportunity.”
During the 2025-26 club year, the organization awarded $5,000 in student scholarships, $2,200 in teacher grants and paid $695.30 toward student lunch debt.
Since record-keeping began in 1981, the Women’s Club of Coconut Creek has awarded more than $360,745 to 457 Coconut Creek residents through its scholarship and community assistance programs.
Although the club is on its annual summer hiatus, members will gather for a summer book club discussion of Boat Girl by memoirist Melanie Neale on Aug. 22.
The organization will officially launch its 2026-27 club year with its “Club Rush: Mamacitas & Margaritas” membership event on the evening of Sept. 9 at Papamigos. Those interested in joining the club or learning more about the event can contact Susan Crick at membership@womensclubcoconutcreek.com.
