High school sports teams in Coconut Creek advanced to the postseason, including basketball.
The Coconut Creek High School boys team opened postseason play with a 67–47 victory over Atlantic High School. Entering the tournament as the fourth seed, the Cougars scored 17 points in each of the first three quarters before adding 16 more in the final frame to secure their ninth win of the season. Coconut Creek’s run came to an end in the District Semifinals with a 74–51 loss.
The girls’ basketball team finished the season with a 9–8 record. After receiving a bye in the opening round, the Cougars were eliminated in the District Semifinals following a 74–16 loss to Northeast High School.
The Monarch High School boys team posted 13 regular-season wins but was eliminated in the opening round of the District Tournament with a 68–21 loss to Boyd H. Anderson High School. The girls’ team finished 8–7 and did not compete in postseason play.
The North Broward Prep boys team lost in the District Semifinals to Saint Andrew’s School. The Eagles, ranked fourth in the state and 175th nationally, entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed and suffered their third loss of the season.
The Eagles will continue postseason play as the district’s second seed and will face Oasis High School on Saturday, February 14, at 7 p.m. The Sharks enter the matchup with a 20–7 record after a loss to Bishop Verot High School in the District Tournament. The winner will advance to face either Saint Andrew’s School or Inlet Grove High School. On the opposite side of the bracket, Calvary Christian Academy will play Bishop Verot High School, while Tradition Prep will take on Cardinal Gibbons High School.
The North Broward Prep girls’ team also earned the second seed and received a first-round bye before defeating Saint Andrew’s School 64–17 to advance to the district final. The Eagles fell 57–47 to Saint Andrew’s School in the championship game and will enter Regionals as the fifth seed.
North Broward Prep is scheduled to play American Heritage High School on Thursday, February 13, at 7 p.m. The Stallions are 16–5 this season and were eliminated by Somerset Academy Canyons in the District Tournament. American Heritage won the lone regular-season meeting between the teams, 56–50. The winner will advance to face either Somerset Academy Canyons or Gateway Charter. Lincoln Park Academy, King’s Academy, Saint Andrew’s School, and Bishop Verot High School also qualified for Regionals.
