The Coconut Creek Commission is continuing work on the MainStreet at Coconut Creek project.
During the August 8 meeting, the commission approved resolutions for two site plans for the large project, which includes housing, retail, restaurants, and parks.
According to the city plans, the sections are located on 13.4 acres. Block Two will be on the northwest corner of Lyons Road and Northwest 40th Street, and Block Three will be on the southwest corner of Lyons Road and 40th Street. The development will include bikeways and walkways.
The commission approved a resolution for Block Two, which was requested by David Auld of Johns Family Partners to permit a retail building and a freestanding restaurant totaling 13,217 square feet with surplus parking.
The commission approved a resolution for the site plan for Block Three, which was also at David Auld’s request to build eight individual buildings totaling 67,366 square feet.
During the meeting, a developer representative described how the restaurants and retail buildings would create an attractive destination for residents of the MainStreet community and the surrounding area.
Commissioner Joshua Rydell liked this portion of the development but wanted to see more amenities overall.
Commissioner Jeffrey Wasserman expressed concern that Coconut Creek taxpayers would have to pay for all the infrastructure development of the project and believes the developer should pay.
