Coconut Creek High School’s football team has played a pair of wild games over the past six days.
The Cougars were 12 seconds away from escaping with another dramatic victory against Dillard High School. Instead, Dillard scored the game-winning touchdown with 12 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to defeat Coconut Creek 25-20, ending the Cougars’ perfect start to the season.
The loss came just one week after Coconut Creek delivered its own last-second heroics, scoring a game-winning touchdown as time expired to defeat True North Classical Academy.
Coconut Creek came out strong against Dillard, taking a 7-0 lead on a touchdown from Jocelyn Francis. Dillard responded with back-to-back touchdowns to take a 13-7 advantage before the Cougars battled back to tie the game.
The teams continued to trade scores in the second half, with Coconut Creek eventually taking a 20-19 lead before Dillard answered with the deciding touchdown in the final seconds.
The Cougars returned to action Thursday and bounced back with a 17-14 victory over Cardinal Gibbons High School. Isaiah Calixte picked off a pass and returned it for a touchdown, while Francis also caught a touchdown pass. Jonathan Hernandez kicked the game-winning field goal.
Next, Coconut Creek will face Boyd H. Anderson High School on Friday, September 18, at 7 p.m. The Cobras are 2-2 this season and lost 44-6 in the most recent matchup between the teams in 2025.
