Coconut Creek High School had the most dramatic victory, defeating True North Classical Academy 33-32 in its first game back on its renovated home field.
With the Cougars trailing late, Josiah Sanchious connected with Jaden Francis for the game-winning touchdown as time expired. Sanchious finished with four touchdown passes, while Everett Butler caught two of them and recorded 133 receiving yards. Javion Francis also caught a touchdown pass, while Cayden Delions added a rushing score.
Coconut Creek improved to 2-0 after opening the regular season with a 48-0 victory over Plantation High School. The Cougars will have a week off before facing Cardinal Gibbons High School on Thursday, September 10, at 7 p.m. The Chiefs are also 2-0 this season and defeated Coconut Creek 11-6 in their lone matchup last year.
Monarch High School also picked up its first win of the regular season, defeating Miramar High School 48-41 on Thursday night. Keshawn Paschall scored the game-winning touchdown with two minutes remaining before the Knights made a fourth-down stop, highlighted by a key tackle from Anthony Williams, and ran out the clock.
Jeremiah Milcent had a huge performance, throwing for 415 yards and four touchdowns. Try caught two touchdown passes and finished with 163 receiving yards, while Chris Cortinas and Keshawn Paschall also recorded touchdown receptions. Paschall added three rushing touchdowns and finished with 144 yards on the ground, while Conroy Whyte II caught six passes for 134 yards.
The Knights previously defeated Spanish River Community High School in the Kickoff Classic before falling to Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory School in their regular-season opener. Next, Monarch will face Mater Lakes Academy on Friday, September 4, at 7 p.m. The Bears opened their season with a 66-0 victory before defeating Miami Palmetto High School 47-41 in their most recent game.
North Broward Prep remains in search of its first win following a 28-24 loss to Coral Glades on Friday night. The Eagles built a 21-0 halftime lead but were outscored 28-3 in the second half, allowing the game-winning touchdown with 59 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.
Ralph Diaz threw a touchdown pass to Luigi Borio for the opening score, while Christian Deerig broke free for a long touchdown run and added his second score late in the first half. Mateo Sanchez also connected on a 47-yard field goal.
NBP previously lost to NSU University School and Cooper City High School and will return to action against Pembroke Pines Charter on Thursday, September 3. The Jaguars enter the matchup with a 1-1 record after falling 28-12 to the Eagles in their lone meeting last season.
