Coconut Creek High School athletic trainer Aline Valiengo and student-athlete Michael Buggam have been recognized by the Broward County Athletic Association (BCAA) as Athletic Trainer of the Month and Athlete of the Month.
Valiengo, MS, LAT, ATC, was honored in April for her ongoing commitment to student-athlete care and education. Originally from Hawaii, she earned her bachelor’s degree in sports and fitness and her master’s degree in athletic training from Florida International University.
Her interest in the field began as a high school athlete recovering from an injury, where hands-on exposure to sports medicine professionals sparked her passion.
Since graduating in 2019, Valiengo has served at Coconut Creek High School, where she works closely with student-athletes and also teaches sports medicine-related courses. She emphasizes mentoring, building strong relationships and educating others to break common misconceptions about the athletic training profession.
Her latest recognition follows a March honor, when she was also named BCAA Athletic Trainer of the Month and invited to accept a proclamation from the City of Margate recognizing National Athletic Training Month.
Outside of work, Valiengo enjoys Pilates, traveling, and spending time with her dog, Kona Duke.

Buggam, a Margate resident and a senior at Coconut Creek High School, was named Athlete of the Month for his resilience and determination as a football and track and field athlete. After suffering a lower-extremity setback last season, Buggam remained committed to a structured recovery plan, focusing on rebuilding strength, flexibility, and confidence.
He credited his athletic trainer for keeping him motivated throughout the process and emphasized the importance of patience and listening to his body during recovery.
Looking ahead, Buggam plans to attend Florida International University, where he intends to major in exercise science and pursue his goal of competing in track at the collegiate level. He also expressed gratitude to his family, coaches, and athletic trainer for their continued support.
The BCAA monthly awards recognize individuals across Broward County who demonstrate excellence in athletic performance, recovery, and sports medicine.
