The Coconut Creek business community will receive help from a consulting organization that has worked with nearby cities.
During the October 23 meeting, the commission passed a resolution approving a $126,900 contract with Redevelopment Management Associates (RMA), based in Pompano Beach, to prepare a comprehensive set of economic development and redevelopment strategies, along with an associated long-term financial analysis. RMA will focus on redeveloping the city, assessing market conditions, and preparing a long-term financial plan.
During the presentation, Vice Mayor Jeffrey Wasserman asked Chris Brown, a principal of RMA, how they would help small businesses. Wasseman said these companies are essential to the city.
Brown said he knows a lot about small businesses. He worked in Delray Beach and successfully promoted small business development there. Brown said RMA has significant experience in real estate development. He likes to visit sites in a city and determine how they can lead to positive change and generate revenue.
Commissioner Joshua Rydell said he believes RMA will provide a valuable service to the city.
