A man was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon and battery after violently assaulting and pulling a firearm on his ex-girlfriend during a domestic dispute.
On November 4, the Coconut Creek Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance call at a residence involving a firearm and serious injuries.
According to the report, dispatch had received a distress call from a woman reporting that her live-in ex-boyfriend, later identified as Dennis Ciocco, 71, of Coconut Creek, was armed with a gun and had physically assaulted her.
Upon arrival, officers encountered Ciocco outside the residence and detained him without incident. At the same time, they observed the victim visibly distressed and actively bleeding from facial injuries.
In a statement given to officers, the victim detailed that upon returning home from a restaurant, she found that Ciocco had changed the door code, so she used a spare key to enter the residence. Upon entering, Ciocco allegedly confronted her, grabbing her face and arms in the front hallway, causing scratches that resulted in bleeding.
As the victim proceeded to run to her room for safety, Ciocco reportedly retrieved a black semi-automatic handgun from his room, pointed it at her, and demanded she leave the house. Fearful for her life, the victim told police she retreated to her room and immediately called 911.
According to the arrest report, Ciocco denied any wrongdoing or physical contact with the victim. He admitted to owning a firearm, claiming it was in his vehicle. However, the gun’s location became uncertain as Ciocco initially mentioned his Lexus but later suggested it might be in his Jeep.
Upon Ciocco’s consent, police searched and discovered a magazine on the floorboard of Ciocco’s red Jeep. Subsequently, Ciocco directed the officers to the firearm, stating it was in the center drawer of the table to the right of the front door.
Ciocco was placed under arrest and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
