Coconut Creek School Zone Cameras are Going Live; Here’s Where Drivers Need to Slow Down

Drivers in Coconut Creek need to be especially careful around schools starting Monday, August 10, the first day of school.

That is the day some school zone speed cameras around some of the city’s schools will be active.

Speed zone cameras are now at Cougar Trail at Coconut Creek High School, NW 39^th Avenue at Winston Park Elementary School, and Johnson Road at Tradewinds Elementary School, according to information from the Coconut Creek Police Department.

The cameras go on at each school when the school zone lights blink, and they run for 30 minutes after dismissal. Drivers should know that when the lights are blinking and they are driving 26 mph or above, they will get a ticket in the mail.

Drivers need to watch their speed throughout the entire school day, not just when the blinking lights are on. If one is going 36 mph on Cougar Trail at 11 a.m. on a school day, with a posted speed limit of 25 mph, the driver will receive a ticket. The same is true for drivers who go above the posted speed limit of 30 mph on Johnson Road and NW 39^th Avenue, according to police information.

The speed zone cameras are programmed to match the school’s hours and calendar. This means they will not be on at night and on weekends, or anytime school is not in session, according to police information.
