North Broward Prep Girls Volleyball. {NBP Athletics}
Coconut Creek teams continue to win and feature success from local high schools.
Coconut Creek High School’s cross country team raced at the BCAA Championship and had Timothy Wint lead the way. He was followed by John Jacques, Louis John Jonas, and Andrew Losier. Farah Charles finished 48th in the girls junior varsity race. The football team had a bye and heads into their game against Blanche Ely High School in Week 9.
The girls’ volleyball team won only two games in the regular season, defeating Blanche Ely and Boyd H. Anderson High School. However, they advanced to the Semifinals following another win over Blanche Ely, winning in four sets 23, 25, 25-8, 25-18, 25-19.
The North Broward Prep girls volleyball team, ranked 11th in the state, had a dominant regular season, going 19-2 and winning the Palm Beach City Invitational. Their only two losses came in a tournament earlier this year, and they were the top seed in Districts. After receiving a bye in the opening round, the Eagles beat Suncoast High School 25-11, 25-14, 25-12 behind eight kills from Yasmin Dias Tonon. NBP went on to win the final, beating Dreyfus Schools of the Arts 25-10, 25-13, 25-16, with Dias Toron adding 14 more kills.
The Eagles have already beat Pompano Beach and Estero High School in Regionals and will play Mater Lakes Academy in the final on Wednesday, October 29 at 7 p.m.
The football team beat Coral Springs Charter 17-14 as Ralph Diaz made the start against his former team, tossing touchdown passes to Joshua Sylvain and Braxton Bylaw. Diaz finished with 154 passing yards while Kenneth Hall had 75 rushing yards. Emerson Phillips led the team with 15 tackles, including an interception and a fumble recovery.
The Eagles then went on to lose 20-14 against Pine Crest School despite an excellent game from Ralph Diaz. He went 22-43 with 217 yards and a touchdown while also running for 86 yards.
Emmerson Walker added a rushing touchdown with Joshua Svylvain leading the team with seven catches and 74 yards. Defensively, Noah Finklestein has a team-high 13 tackles, while Ethan Phillips had 10 tackles, including a sack and fumble recovery.
Eduard Shmandura also recovered a fumble while Christian Silverman had 10 tackles. The Eagles finished the regular season with a 5-5 record and will await to see if they will compete in the playoffs.
The boys’ and golf team beat Calvary Christian Academy at Boca Country Club. Elliot Fishman came in first individually with a 38, one shot better than Alexander Laveen and John Mazrano. Max Gressele, Jiayi Wang, and Cooper Roth also competed. Tignting Zhuang led the girls, shooting a 38, while Cooper Aucoin came in second with a 40. Jesera Mendez and Ava Cory each had 43s while Jordan Ellis had a 46.
In cross country, the Eagles competed in the Palm League Conference Championship and placed as a team. Willis Gilis came in 10th at 17:15.7, followed by Eric Levy, Caden Nassar, Ari Arbel, Jackson Rivers, Calvin Lukens, and Josh Dewey. Emily Cooper ran for the girls and placed 68th while the swim team held Senior Night prior to the start of the postseason.
