Coconut Creek residents will soon see a new and improved courtyard and parking lot at the Government Center.
During the April 10 meeting, the commission approved a resolution for a $129,960 design services contract with Miller Legg & Associates to renovate the Government Center courtyard and parking lot.
The project appeals to Commissioner Joshua Rydell, who said the improved courtyard will allow the city to host higher-quality events than in the past. He said this will be one of the few city hall courtyards in the region suitable for large-scale activities.
Commissioner Sandra Welch also showed support and said the renovations will allow the city to hold a variety of programs there.
The commission also approved a resolution for a $193,375 consulting services contract with Kimley-Horn and Associates to provide professional engineering services for a citywide canal and lake bank restoration master plan.
The city is responsible for maintaining about seven miles of canal and lake banks. The erosion of soil along the banks into the water affects real estate, can compromise infrastructure, and is unsightly.
According to city information, a comprehensive engineering analysis of city—and non-city-owned canal and lake banks is needed to plan and estimate restoration costs.
