Coconut Creek’s Hometown Market Celebrates Opening Day

Mimi Yehya loves baking and selling gourmet cookies.

The owner of Mimi’s Cookiez, Yehya, was among a group of vendors at the Coconut Creek Hometown Market, which opened on the morning of September 5.

“I love this market and the people here. My chocolate chip cookies, brownie delights, and apple pie cookies are very popular,” she said.

The Market will be open at the Township Plaza on the first and third Saturdays of each month through February. About 50 vendors were at the first market, including small businesses that produce crafts and food, according to Leo Moleiro, a recreational supervisor. “We are looking for more local vendors. People who come to this Market can support the local business community,” he said.

Vice Mayor John Brodie spent the morning walking through the market and visiting with vendors and residents. “I love coming here, and there are many vendors who are selling high-quality items,” said Brodie. He visited with Becky Tooley, a former Coconut Creek mayor and commissioner, who came with her dog, Scarlet. “I love to come to the Market and spend time with people here,” she said.

The Women’s Club of Coconut Creek participated, and Elaine Vinkemulder enjoyed spending the morning with her friends. They were promoting their programs and upcoming events.

Rose Vitiglio, owner of Beenzy’s Onions in Sauce, was selling onions in tomato sauce. “I love coming to this market, and I like people here,” she said.

The Hometown Market is held at West Sample Road, on the southeast corner of Sample Road and Lyons Road. It takes place on the first and third Saturdays from September 2026 to February 2027 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with no market on January 2. Admission is free.
