These days in MiraLago, clothing is optional. At least, for one man, it was.
On the afternoon of August 18, the Broward Sheriff’s Office in Parkland received a call about a man roaming the community in his birthday suit.
In an attempt to uncover more details about the suspicious incident, deputies were dispatched to the 9800 block of South Miralago Way around 2 p.m.
According to the report, a resident said she witnessed an unknown white male in his late teens to early 20s swimming in her pool. When she approached him, he got out of the water, jumped the fence, and ran into a wooded area towards Hillsboro Blvd.
She lost sight of him after he jumped the fence — naked.
The resident stated the man could have been an old friend of her son whom she believed lived inside MiraLago, but wasn’t sure where.
Deputies visited two possible homes, but neither resident knew of the naked man.
Deputy Kelliher spoke to one resident in the area at the time of the streaking incident who said he saw the subject running toward Hillsboro Blvd near a wooded area.
Deputy Levin spoke to a lawn maintenance worker near the intersection of Nob Hill Road and Hillsboro Blvd, who told her he didn’t see anything.
It didn’t take long before residents who couldn’t “bare” the excitement, took to social media.
One joked, “In the young lad’s defense, it was very hot today.”
“If that’s the biggest thing on the police blotter for us this month, I’m happy.”
“If he’s naked, he’s going to learn his lesson real soon when he gets sunburnt and bit up by whatever is in there.”
A perimeter was set up around the wooded area; however, it contained very thick vegetation that deputies said precluded them from walking or driving through it.
They also thought it was unlikely for a person without shoes, let alone clothing to get through it.
The aviation unit conducted an aerial search of the wooded area in case the naked subject was “sick, injured, or lost.” However, the helicopter searched the entire area and was unable to locate him.
According to BSO, no crime was committed, and it was unknown if the subject was ever in the woods at all.
