Food For The Poor is inviting the public to experience its mission firsthand at Hope Fest, a free community event taking place Saturday, May 3, from noon to 4 p.m. at the organization’s Coconut Creek headquarters, 6401 Lyons Road.
Admission is free with the donation of a canned good to benefit children in need.
The family-friendly event features building tours, food trucks, children’s activities, and virtual reality booths. Guests can collect stamps at activity stations to enter a drawing for a mission trip and enjoy behind-the-scenes tours of the charity’s warehouse and offices.
“Hope Fest is about bringing our community together to laugh, to learn, and to live out what generosity looks like in action,” said Food For The Poor President/CEO Ed Raine.
Hope Fest kicks off a week of compassion leading up to Food For The Poor Day on Wednesday, May 7, when the nonprofit aims to fund more than 400 life-saving pediatric surgeries in Honduras through partnerships with World Pediatrics and CEPUDO.
Sponsors for Hope Fest include Aflac, BKS, Virtual Arcadia, Brits Boards, Koffeeology, and El Bodegón Supermarkets.
Now in its 43rd year, Food For The Poor has delivered over $18.5 billion in aid and built nearly 96,000 homes across Latin America and the Caribbean. Its Coconut Creek facility has served as the charity’s base since 2007.
“We know that health fuels dreams,” Raine said. “That’s why we’re inviting people to come celebrate with us, then turn that joy into impact. Because when you help a child heal, you give them more than medical care, you give them their future.”
