Readers and memoir lovers are invited to spend a late summer morning with author Melanie Neale during a special book discussion and meet-and-greet hosted by the Women’s Club of Coconut Creek.
The event, titled “Growing Up Afloat: Summer Book Discussion with Melanie Neale,” will take place on Saturday, Aug. 22, at 11 a.m. at the Nauti Dawg Café, 2841 Marina Circle in Lighthouse Point.
Neale, whose memoirs chronicle her unconventional upbringing aboard a sailboat, will discuss her books Boat Girl: A Memoir of Youth, Love, and Fiberglass and Boat Kid: How I Survived Swimming with Sharks, Being Homeschooled, and Growing Up on a Sailboat.
Guests are encouraged, but not required, to read one or two books before attending. The discussion will provide an opportunity to meet the author, ask questions, and connect with fellow readers in a casual brunch setting.
Attendees will purchase their own meals, but organizers ask that guests RSVP in advance so enough seating can be reserved for the group.
Boat Kid is available on Amazon, while Boat Girl is available on Barnes & Noble.
The event is open to the public, and all are welcome to attend.
Those interested in participating can reserve a spot through the event’s Eventbrite registration page.
