The fight between Coconut Creek and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) continues.
During the February 12 meeting, City Attorney Terrill Pyburn told the commission that a judge had dismissed the city’s lawsuit that was filed against the FDOT over the expansion of the Florida Turnpike, which runs through the city.
The judge dismissed the lawsuit without prejudice, allowing the city to file an amended lawsuit. Pyburn said she would re-file the lawsuit within 30 days.
Coconut Creek has been fighting the FDOT regarding the turnpike expansion for years. Mayor Jackie Railey said she is committed to re-filing the lawsuit.
“We are going to amend and pursue this suit. If we fail, the quality of life for many of our residents will be reduced, and we are not willing to stop fighting,” said Railey.
