Broward County Public Schools has just announced that 23 students have been named by The National Merit Scholarship Corporation as scholarship finalists and six of them are from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
“These outstanding students have demonstrated remarkable academic success and we are extremely proud of their accomplishments,” said BCPS Superintendent Robert W. Runcie. “Our scholars worked incredibly hard to earn these prestigious scholarships, and we wish them all the best as they prepare for college and their futures.”
Officials from each sponsor college selected their scholarship winners from the finalists in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program. These awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship. An additional group of scholars will be announced in July 2017, bringing the total number of college-sponsored National Merit Scholarship recipients in the 2017 competition to approximately 4,000.
