City Applies For $200,000 Grant To Improve Liberty Park

The City of Parkland is applying for a grant to make much-needed improvements to Liberty Park.

“Our hope is to receive the funding to make the project more financially efficient as one of the challenges with the park is some elements can no longer be repaired, and they have to be replaced,” said Budget and Grants Manager Sherri Troops.

At the cost of $1.4 million, the city plans to replace the playground structure at 9200 Ranch Rd. and improve the picnic pavilions, fencing, restrooms, and landscaping.

Ultimately, the park will have easy-to-navigate surfaces, wide ramps, inclusive swings, and they will ensure all sidewalks, picnic areas, and restrooms are fully ADA accessible, said Troops.

“Our goal is a park in which children of all abilities can safely play side-by-side.”

The Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program from the FL Dept of Environmental Protection provides $200,000 with a minimum $200,000 match.

A public meeting for Liberty Park will be held in the conference room at city hall on Tuesday, September 28, at 10:00 a.m. to discuss the project.
