Parkland Hosts Third Annual Mayors’ Chess Challenge

The Mayors’ Chess Challenge, a free event making stops throughout Broward County, is heading back to the City of Parkland.

The event, hosted by Mayor Christine Hunschofsky on Saturday, February 2, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., is open to everyone regardless of age, playing level, or even beginner status.

This free and friendly series of meet-ups, spearheaded by Sunrise Mayor Michael Ryan in cooperation with mayors throughout Broward County, draws attention to the benefits of chess in both the academic environment and in our community. It also is a great vehicle to bring together elected officials, community leaders, students and families. Instructors will be on hand to help those new to the game and provide pointers to those familiar with it.

Since September, the Mayors’ Chess Challenge has visited Fort Lauderdale, Davie, Sunrise, Deerfield Beach, Lauderhill, Weston, Coconut Creek, Dania Beach, Tamarac and Coral Springs.

The event will be held at the Parkland Recreation and Enrichment Center at 10599 Trails End in Pine Trails Park. Map it.
