Three young women from Parkland were honored by the city commission on Wednesday night for their charitable efforts.
The nonprofit called “Three Heart Strings” began a little more than three years ago by Hanna Guttentag, a junior at Marjory Stoneman Douglas, Stacey Gringauz, a junior at North Broward Prep and Sofia Rothenberg, an eighth grader at Westglades Middle School. Since their inception, they have donated over $12,500 to various charities.
It began with a simple beaded bracelet, but their efforts quickly turned into a creative way of being involved, and with it, 100 percent of their profits donated to many charities. As their product line grows, so do the thousands of dollars in donations.
Besides being honored by the Parkland mayor and city commissioners, the women were also honored at the Not My Daughter Breast Cancer Luncheon in Coral Springs for raising $4,000 for the group.
This week, they sold bracelets at Temple Kol Tikvah which raised over $400. All profits raised will be put back into to their organization so they can donate bracelets to patients at Joe DiMaggio Children’s hospital when they visit this next month.
The three women said they want to help make the world a better place while spreading awareness about different causes that “tug at your heartstrings.”
