On Thursday, a team of three assessors from the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA) announced they would recommend the Coconut Creek Police Department for reaccreditation at the CFA’s next state conference in October.
The assessors found no non-compliance issues among the department’s 200+ policies and standards, indicating the agency meets or exceeds the highest standards in law enforcement.
Gary Robinson, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office’s Assessment Team Leader, described the process as “painless” and praised the department’s reputation for accreditation.
Assessor Dallas Petrovich highlighted the alignment of policies and actions, while Assessor Lori Collins commended the hospitality and credited Accreditation Manager Sanchia Williams.
Williams was named CFA’s Accreditation Manager of the Year earlier this year, and Acting Captain Henry Cabrera was honored as Assessor of the Year.
“As part of the assessment, we had to present what is referred to as an ‘exemplary program,” said Coconut Creek Police Chief Fred Hofer. “We presented our Accreditation Ambassador Program, which is made up of employees committed to accreditation excellence.”
Hofer mentioned that perhaps no other agency in the state boasts such a unique program designed to enhance employee support for accreditation.
“This would not have been possible without the buy-in from all of our hardworking employees,” said Hofer. “The credit goes to them.”
City Manager Sheila Rose added that residents should be comforted that the police department is so highly regarded by CFA Assessors.
The Coconut Creek Police Department was first accredited in 2018 and reaccredited in 2021. Pending approval of the assessment team’s recommendation, it will remain accredited through 2027.
