Authorities have identified two fishermen who drowned in the waters of the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge near Parkland Sunday.
Elizazar Aguilar Reynoso, 31, and Celso Santizo Cobon, 20, went into the water at the Broward County line around 1:52 p.m. Sunday near the S-10A spillway, one mile west of Loxahatchee Road in unincorporated Boca Raton, authorities said.
The men “went into distress” and never resurfaced, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities did not make public where the men lived. Neither of them could swim, officials said.
A third fishermen, who had been with the men as part of a family fishing excursion, went into the water to try and help them.
“He quickly realized he was unable to help and returned to shore to call 911,” PBSO said in a written announcement. “BSO responded to the scene and determined the area belonged to PBSO.”
PBSO deputies responded and immediately called in the PBSO Marine Unit and officers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, who launched a search for the men.
They recovered the fishermen’s bodies shortly before 6 p.m., authorities said.
No additional information was made public.
