Coconut Creek continues to produce champions following a strong regional and state competition.
The girls’ track and field team came in fourth place, highlighted by wins from Ella Munoz in the long jump and Alexa Schwartz in the javelin. Munoz also came in second in the triple jump, followed by Nina Sanguino, who came in third in the long jump. Edgecomb also placed third in the 100 meters and led the Eagles in the 200 meters. She competed in the 4 x 100 relay, which came in fourth with Sanguino, Munoz, and Ava Austad. Noelle Barthelette finished fifth in the 400 hurdles, with Caitlin Espinosa, Marianna Lander, and Victoria Depenbrock in the top ten. 800 meters. Lucia Casacci and Kaiden O’Neil led NBP in events as well.
The boys came in sixth place and had Jayden Smith win the high jump. Willis Gillis came in fourth in the 1699 meters, and Christopher Baker finished fifth in the 100 meters. Danylo Babinchuk added two impressive finishes in the hurdles: sixth in the 110 and seventh in the 400. Boston Nguyen, Danylo Babinchuk, Braxton Bylow, and Baker placed seventh in the 4 x 100 relay alongside Zach Amelchenko, coming in seventh in the javelin. Elijah Gonzalez, Aiden Kontos, and Brodie Rush all placed in the top ten, with Daniel Robles, Eric Levy, and Boston Nguyen all qualifying along with the 4 x 400 relay with Robles, Babinchuk, Dylan Tierney, and Braxton Bylow.
At the State Championship, Schwartz won a State Title for the second straight year in the javelin, setting a state record 47.04 meters. Munoz came in third in the long jump while Pimentel placed foruth in the high hump and Sanguino placing fifth in the long jump. Edgecomb and Munoz also placed in the top ten, while their 4 x 400 relay earned a point after placing eighth. Barthellette also competed to help the Eagles place 11th while Smith led the boys team, placing seventh in the high jump. Gillis competed in two races, and Baker and Babinchuk qualified.
For the first time since 2021, the baseball team will not go to Fort Myers after being swept in their best-of-three series with Calvary Christian Academy. The Eagles, who had previously won three of the last four State Championships and reached a final, lost 5-2 in their opening game, with Max Burkholz driving in the only run. NBP managed only three hits in their 4-0 loss and, despite winning a District Championship earlier this year, finished the season 23-8.
Max Freedman, who won a State Championship in tennis late year, made it back this year but fell just short. However, softball was back at North Broward Prep, featuring the Eagles Middle School team winning a championship.
