North Broward Prep had four athletes announce their college commitments, while a former Eagle is headed to the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) to continue his college basketball career.
Jordan Corbitt, one of the newest additions to the boys’ basketball team, committed to Georgia Southern University. He previously played at Blanche Ely and Miami Country Day, averaging 11 points and 6.6 rebounds per game as a junior while helping his team reach the State Final.
Gabriel Coupet is set to play baseball at Texas Tech University after spending two seasons on the varsity team. He hit his first varsity home run as a sophomore and drove in seven runs with three extra-base hits. Coupet also had a strong summer, competing at the Area Code Games and earning All-Tournament Team honors while emerging as one of Florida’s top middle infield prospects.
Julian Rodriguez committed to Appalachian State University to play baseball, becoming the third Eagle in the last three years to commit there, following Riley Luft and Justin Abson. Rodriguez has played on the varsity team since his freshman year and has hit eight career home runs, including seven this past season. He has also driven in 52 runs while recording seven doubles and three triples. On the mound, Rodriguez is 3-0 with a career ERA of 0.91.
Julian Lopez committed to Delaware State University after playing briefly as a junior with the Eagles. His offensive highlight came following a two-run double, and he also made two appearances on the mound, striking out three of the eight batters he faced.
Justin Abson is now headed to Wake Forest University and has established himself as one of the top shot blockers in college basketball. After beginning his collegiate career at Appalachian State, Abson transferred to the University of Georgia. He recorded 22 blocks during his first season with the Bulldogs and finished his two-year stint at Georgia with 73 blocks.
Before beginning his college career, Abson starred at North Broward Prep, averaging a double-double with 13.9 points and 11.1 rebounds per game.
