The postseason is officially underway, with Monarch and Coconut Creek High School competing in the District Championship.
The boys soccer team advanced to the Regional Semifinals following a 2-0 win over Coral Springs High School on Thursday. The Knights were seeded fifth and won eight games in the regular season before getting a pair of goals from Luca Lopez in their first playoff game. Gabe Lana added an assist while Odair Passu made six saves in net for the shutout.
The Knights are set to play Fort Lauderdale High School in the Regional Semifinals on Tuesday, January 28, after they had a bye In the opening round. They went 14-4-1 but had their one tie against Monarch. Deerfield Beach will play Boyd H. Anderson High School in the other semifinal game, and the winners will be set to play in the final.
The Monarch girls soccer team was seeded third and beat Boyd H. Anderson High School 8-0 for their ninth win of the season. They will also play Fort Lauderdale High School in the District Semifinals after they were seeded second and had a bye in the first round. The Flying L’s had only five wins this year, while Piper High School will be playing Coral Springs High School in the top half of the bracket.
The Coconut Creek High School boy’s soccer team earned the top seed in the District Playoffs, going 12-2-2 this year. After a bye in the first round, the Cougars played Plantation High School on Friday and won 2-0 against Plantation High School. Despite playing a man down after Joshua Palomeque was issued a red card, Clevice Joseph and Ryan Paulime scored to help Coconut Creek win their 13th win of the season.
They are set to play Dr. Joaquin Garcia High School in the Finals on Wednesday, January 29, at 6 p.m. The Bulldogs won 4-1 against Blanche Ely High School and finished the regular season 7-6-4. The Coconut Creek High School girls soccer team did not compete this year after winning only one game last year.
North Broward Prep will have both their teams begin the District Championship this week. The boys are seeded second and will play Somerset Academy Canyons after their bye on Tuesday, January 28, at 5 p.m., while the girls also had a bye and are seeded first. They will play American Heritage High School on Monday, January 27, at 7 p.m.
